2nd “Solar for All” Contest 2016 Finalists have been chosen
“Short Video Contest” Winner is announced

Fraunhofer ISE, Press Release, 4 August 2016. More than one billion people still have no reliable access to electricity, particularly in rural areas in developing countries. The cost for photovoltaic (PV) technology has been dropping continuously in the past years, making solar electricity an even more viable solution for these regions. Reliable PV systems for community electrification that are well adapted and scalable are required. The Canopus Foundation, in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, has been managing the 2nd “Solar for All” Contest for Community Solar Electrification Solutions 2016 during the last year. The purpose of this contest is to identify outstanding technical concepts to provide electricity for communities in the developing world. The finalists have now been selected. Read more

2nd »Solar for All« Contest Now Open for Applications

Fraunhofer ISE, Press Release, 20 January 2016. The 2nd »Solar for All« Contest for Innovative Community Solar Electrification Solutions 2016, organized by the Canopus Foundation and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, is now accepting applications. Proposals for PV solar electrification solutions to provide a scalable number of low-income communities with power are invited for submission. The most innovative and promising solutions will be selected for the award. The 2016 edition of the contest was initially called “Solar for All Contest for Innovative Solar Village Grid Power Solutions.” The name change was decided during the first jury meeting for this second contest in Paris on December 11, 2015. Read more

2nd »Solar for All« contest - Jury meets in Paris

Fraunhofer ISE, 12 December 2015. The jury of the 2nd »Solar for All« contest, organised by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE and the Canopus Foundation, gathers in Paris for the first jury meeting. The contest aims to identify and support solar village grid technologies and their highly recognised potential for rural development. The winner will be awarded a 150,000€ investment. The agenda of the first jury meeting includes finalising the application guidelines. Applications will open on January 15, 2016.See announcement

Announcement of second »Solar for All« contest

Fraunhofer ISE, Press Release, 14 July 2015. Solar power gained from photovoltaics (PV) will soon be the cheapest form of electricity in many regions of the world, as a recent study on long-term scenarios by Fraunhofer ISE on behalf of Agora Energiewende shows. In sunnier regions, for applications in rural areas, one kilowatt hour (kWh) gained from solar energy already today is cheaper than a kWh produced by a diesel system, which is due to the fast growing global market for PV. In this context, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE and the Canopus Foundation will put the focus of the second »Solar for All« contest on solar village and mini-grid solutions and their highly recognized potential for rural development. Further information on submission criteria will be released late 2015. Read more
